Gordon Cunningham (right) helping a customer.
The following was paraphrased from an article written by Jim Shaw in Lexington’s Colonial Times newspaper (March/April 2007):
Fifty years ago, the store was founded as Cunningham hardware by Gordon Cunningham. For a period of about 15 years, the store was owned by Ken Robinson of Lexington. He purchased the store from Gordon in 1970 and sold it back to Bob Cunningham, Gordon’s son and current owner in 1985.
In 1986, Bob joined up with the powerful national hardware consortium known as Ace, in order to offer better products at a better price to his customers.
Gordon Cunningham passed away in 1992 at the age of 84. But, Bob’s mother, Mary, is still going strong at 102!!
Bob and his wife Toni spend a great deal of time giving back to the community. They are active members of the Lexington Rotary Club and recently joined the Board of Directors of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce.
